CO-breathing Ruthenium Carbido Clusters on MgO in CO/H2 Reaction Conditions

Ruthenium carbido cluster [Ru6C(CO)16Me](-) was attached on MgO. In-situ EXAFS measurements demonstrated the [Ru6C] cluster framework expansion - shrink ("CO breathing") under CO - H2 atmosphere in relation to in-situ structure change of cluster in the CO - H2 reaction conditions (to produce methanol and foraldehyde). The CO breathing effect on the catalytic reactivity is discussed.
